Hypnotherapy for weight loss

We offer two comprehensive approaches to weight management. The first is a specialised weight management programme known as 'Release Me', which uses a combination of hypnotherapy, CBT and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques. The second approach is HypnoBand™ gastric band hypnosis. Both approaches are very effective and look at the issues surrounding your eating habits and look to change any thoughts or beliefs that are unhelpful to you obtaining your goal of losing weight.

'Release Me' approach to weight loss at West Coast Hypnosis

This approach involves individual sessions looking at the emotional reasons why you eat, working together to build upon motivational levels for achieving your goal. We will be looking at ways exercise can be built into your lifestyle and looking toward changing behaviours which make you over-eat or comfort eat. Weight Management is a very personal and complex problem to deal with but we are committed to working with each of our clients to affect positive good eating habits, good self esteem and body image. Each client we see will have their own individual relationship with food and we will work with you to find the triggers that make you over-eat or comfort eat particular food. We will work on reducing your food cravings, and help you enjoy an increased amount of exercise as a natural part of your lifestyle. This programme is a highly flexible approach which can be tailored precisely to you individual needs, and it can be run over three, six or twelve sessions, at intervals ranging from weekly to monthly. We will discuss this with you at your initial consultation.

You will receive CDs to listen to outside of sessions, a comprehensive pack of information to refer to and support for the whole duration of your treatment plan, either by email or by telephone, during office hours.

The programme is split into either three, six or twelve individual sessions

The first session will take between 90 minutes and 2 hours, during which a full and comprehensive history of your eating issues will be discussed and goals will be set. This is primarily a fact finding session, but we appreciate that most clients will be keen to get started with hypnosis, and so we will conduct a shorter session of hypnotherapy with you towards the end. You will however be given a CD to listen to at home, and some homework to do before the next session.

As sessions progress, we will be looking at taking control of your eating, saying no to unhealthy amounts and types of food, increasing levels of physical activity and boosting your confidence and self esteem. The aim is to empower you to take care of yourself in the best way you can, feeling in control of your food and not the other way around. Any psychological barriers to weight loss will be identified and worked upon so that you can enjoy moving, consistently and positively, towards your ideal weight and shape.

By the end of your programme, you will have a whole range of new healthy responses to food. We will have worked with you intensively throughout the programme during hypnosis, using a range of therapeutic interventions designed to regulate your appetite, reduce unhealthy cravings and to help you to stop responding to emotional triggers to eat. You will be able to practice new alternative patterns of behaviour, which keep you in control of your eating and your continued progress as you move forwards out of therapy. The last session will involve comparing your food diary with the first week and looking at your goals to see how you have succeeded, before setting further goals. The hypnotherapy involves teaching you self hypnosis and focuses on healthy eating, eating smaller portions and eating slowly, and dealing with anything you are not happy with or are having particular trouble with.


After each of your sessions with our hypnotherapist you will be given further literature to work through at home, and homework assignments to complete between appointments (such as food diaries and listening to therapeutic CDs, which both reinforce and accelerate the process of change).


This is a comprehensive weight management programme and success can only be achieved if you are completely committed to attending all sessions, and to following suggestions for further work in between your attendance at the clinic. Each session costs £60 and to gain optimum success you should allow one week between sessions, although longer between sessions can be arranged to fit your budget and goals.


Which should I choose - Hypno-Band or Release Me?

At the initial consultation with you we will discuss the pros and cons of each programme with you. Please note that the Hypno-Band may not be suited to everyone (for example in the case of other pre-existing conditions) and it may possibly give you a better outcome to proceed with the 'Release Me' programme, which is a completely bespoke service, and can often be preferable in more complex cases. Our hypnotherapist will use their best judgement in advising you about this before you proceed.
